Energy Bites for Endurance

Serves: 8

Time: 30 mins

Looking for a food source to take on those long rides or endurance training sessions to help you meet your fuelling requirements?

Energy bites are a great go-to option and are made out of things you might already find in your pantry! They are a balanced source of simple and complex carbohydrates for fuel, protein for recovery and good fats for extra energy.

These bars will certainly help keep you pushing harder for longer and are a brilliant addition to your nutrition and hydration strategy.

NUTRITIONAL AVERAGE (recipes makes 8 serves)

17g carbohydrate

3g   protein

10g fat

180 Calories

PLEASE NOTE: I have used the beautiful whole foods range from My Organics for my own recipe however your recipe may differ depending on the actual ingredients you use. It is a good idea to do a quick recipe calculation so you can make sure you are achieving your 30g-90g of carbs per hour. Under fuelling can lead to the dreaded “bonk” or hitting the wall, and over fuelling can lead to gastrointestinal distress.

Ingredients

½ cup MyOrganics rolled oats

½ cup MyOrganics desiccated coconut

¼ cup peanut butter**

¼ cup honey

½ tsp vanilla essence

2tbs (heaped) choc chips or MyOrganics cacao nibs

1 dash hot water (if needed)

**Did you know it is SO simple to make your own peanut butter? Simply purchase dry roasted peanuts and thrown them in a food processor with a pinch of salt. Peanut butter on tap WITHOUT the added extras!

Method

Put all ingredients in a bowl and STIR!

Add a dash of hot water to help it come together if needed.
