Fiona’s MS Story

Meet Fiona, one of our colleagues, who was diagnosed with MS just eight months ago and is participating in her first ever MS Brissie to the Bay bike ride this year!

Looking back, Fiona recalls experiencing symptoms for roughly 10 years, however it wasn’t until she lost movement in her lower left leg that a trip to the Neurologist confirmed her MS diagnosis.

“Initially I was devastated, scared and fearful of another attack, but I will not let MS stop me. I am more determined now than ever!”

After learning of her diagnosis, Fiona’s workplace ‘Trumps’ have become a valued partner of MS Queensland, and are an official sponsor of the ride. Trumps are providing energy snacks on course for our riders, and have even entered their own team.

Team ‘Trumps Pty Ltd’ have already raised well over $2000, with team captain Fiona leading the pack, closely followed by her 10 year old son Matthew who has raised over $700.

Thanks to our amazing fundraisers, Fiona is able to use our MS Queensland physiotherapy service to help improve her mobility and ensure she can continue her lifestyle as usual.

Fiona says, “The advice from physio has me walking better than I have in the last 12 years.”

If you see Fiona and Matthew riding the 10km on the day, give them a big smile and wave to welcome them to the MS Brissie to the Bay family.

“The encouragement has given me such great strength and the belief that I can do anything.”
